What to Do During the Feria de Malaga 2022
The Feria de Malaga starts with the traditional reading of the opening speech, made by a renowned local for his professional career or his strong connection with the city. Some of the best known heralds have been Antonio Banderas, María Teresa Campos, Estrella Morente or Julio Iglesias among others. At this point of the year, we only have rumours, but be sure that the chosen person will get us all excited and, above all, transmit the desire to enjoy such special festivities.
After the speech, the festivities are inaugurated with the amazing and traditional fireworks, which flood the night sky of Malaga with colours and, this year, will take place on August 12th.
But, if there is something that characterizes the Feria de Malaga, it is the wide range of activities and plans that you can enjoy throughout the week, both day and night.
If you go in the morning, you should visit the historic centre and walk along Larios street, which is decorated every year for the occasion. There you can taste the best Malaga tapas and wines while listening to music and enjoying the atmosphere, with people singing and dancing sevillanas.
In the streets of the city centre, you can also attend the festivals of verdiales, an indispensable part of Malaga culture that you cannot miss if you are in the area during those days.
However, within all this offer we cannot forget the Soho in Malaga, the most avant-garde neighborhood of downtown Malaga in which the best of urban and alternative art is fused with the most creative and innovative cuisine. In particular, we recommend you visit one of our must-sees: La Fábrica microbrewery and restaurant, which will have a selection of concerts during La Feria that you will not want to miss and that we will tell you later.
In the evening, the party continues in the Cortijo de Torres city fairgrounds, which welcomes all its visitors through the entrance gate illuminated with thousands of light bulbs. Walking through its streets you can find more than 200 booths where you can continue enjoying food, drink and dance until the body can hold up thanks to live concerts. Entrance to all the booths is free. In addition, you can also go to the area of the fair attractions for both children and adults.
Experience the Feria Malaga 2022 at La Fábrica
In the artistic neighbour, also known as Malaga’s Soho, you will find the favourite destination of any beer lover: La Fábrica microbrewery and restaurant, which during Malaga’s big week has prepared a concert programme so that you can experience La Feria in style.
Through its concert offer you will immerse yourself in a journey through the best hits of national and international Pop and Rock & Roll, with two very special stops in the 60s and 70s through the groups The Botles and Queen of Magic; which will pay homage to the kings of British rock the Beatles and Queen during August 14 and 17. However, that is not all, because you will also be able to live an immersive experience in Malaga art, starting with a beginning of the fair full of positivism and leprechauns with the Jarrillo Lata anchovy group on August 13 and ending with a master class in flamenco, divided into three evenings, with Encarni Navarro and José Callejón during the days 16, 18 and 19 of August.
So take note, because from August 13 to 20 you can not miss the concert proposal in Malaga at La Fábrica. And, since you will be surrounded by the best selection of craft beers in downtown Malaga, you cannot leave without having tried the Cruzcampo Malagueta, created in honour of the city.
Transports to Go to the Feria de Malaga 2022
One of the frequent doubts if you visit the Feria de Malaga in August is which transport is recommended to get there. During the summer and, above all, in that week of festivities, the influx of people is quite high, therefore, the best way to move during the Feria de Malaga 2022 is to use public transport or take a taxi.
In addition, the Town hall of Malaga reinforces the bus service by increasing the frequency of those lines that have the fairgrounds as a destination. Among them, is the F line which operates 24 hours a day.
On the other hand, if you come by car, you can park it in the parking areas that have been enabled in: Feria Norte-Palacio de Ferias, Pierrot-Centro Comercial, Los Prados, Huerta del Correo and Teatinos.
Finally, you can also take the train, as the C1 suburban train from Renfe stops at Victoria Kent station, which is very close to the fairgrounds.
Origin of the Feria de Malaga
If in addition to the party and the dance, you are interested in the culture, the first thing you should know about the Feria de Malaga is how it originated and why it is celebrated during August.
Its origin dates back to the late fifteenth century, specifically, in August 1487 when the Catholic Monarchs first entered the city of Malaga and annexed it to the kingdom of Castile. A few years later, to commemorate that moment, the Municipal Council of the city decreed the month of August as the beginning of the local festivities.
Since then, the Feria de Malaga has become the most important Andalusian summer festivity, in which thousands of tourists and locals come together to enjoy all the recreational and cultural activities offered by the city during its great week.
